Mancos volleyball wins two at home to close league play at 5-3
Three league matches in the week of October 19 — a straight-sets defeat at Telluride, then home wins over Nucla and Ridgway. The football fixture that had been pencilled in for Friday never appeared.
Mancos volleyball was the only Bluejay team to take the floor between October 19 and 25, and it finished the week the way a side wants to: two home wins in three days after a poor night on the road.

Volleyball
Monday’s trip to Telluride was the low point: a 0-3 defeat in a league match, and a second loss to that opponent inside eight days after the 1-3 home defeat on October 13.
Mancos answered at home. Nucla were swept 3-0 on Wednesday evening, and Ridgway were beaten 3-1 on Saturday lunchtime, both league matches. The Saturday win was the tighter of the two but never looked like slipping away.
That leaves the varsity side 10-11 overall and 5-3 in league play, with the three league defeats coming against Ignacio, Dolores and Telluride. The junior varsity, 0-5 on the year, did not play this week.
Football
There was no Bluejay football on the card. A home game against Del Norte had been listed on the school’s athletics calendar for Friday, October 23; that row has since been taken off the calendar, no result was ever posted for it, and MaxPreps now shows no remaining Mancos football fixture of any kind. Neither the school nor MaxPreps has said why, so anyone planning around a Bluejay home game should wait for the school to post a date.
Mancos varsity football last played on October 16, losing 22-24 at home to Norwood, and stands 6-2 overall and 2-1 in the 8-Man Mountain league.
Looking forward
The school’s calendar marks Friday and Saturday, October 30 and 31, as the SJBL volleyball tournament for the varsity side, with the venue still to be decided, and the MaxPreps feed carries two varsity matches on October 31 against opponents listed only as “TBA.” Nothing is confirmed as a home date, so nothing has gone on our events calendar yet.
The next Mancos home fixture we can list is basketball: Ignacio visit on Tuesday, December 1, girls at 6 p.m. and boys at 7:30 p.m.
Everything above is taken from the Mancos Bluejays pages on MaxPreps and the school’s own athletics calendar. The running table for all three county schools is kept on our scoreboards page.
