About the Publisher

One of my first jobs was delivering the Burke Connection and the Burke Times as a teenager in Burke, Virginia, in Fairfax County, a suburb of Washington, D.C. My hands would get black with ink rolling hundreds of newspapers and delivering them with my mother. I’ve had news in my veins ever since.
I grew up in an Army family. My parents were both U.S. military police officers, and my father served 28 years in the Army before retiring as a Colonel. We moved around a lot. I was born in Alabama, my brother in California, and my sister in Singapore. Along the way, I earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
I studied Politics at the University of Virginia, graduating in 2001, and earned my Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2005.
In the summer of 2018 I moved to Durango and started We Gotcha Served LLC, a Colorado process serving business. In October 2019 I moved to Cortez. I don’t have a hometown. After a lifetime of moving, Cortez is my home now.
I served on the Cortez Planning and Zoning Commission from 2025 to 2026, and I ran for City Council in the April 2026 election but was not elected. I started The Cortez Current to provide fast, accurate, paywall-free coverage of Cortez, Dolores, Mancos, and the rest of Montezuma County, Colorado. People here deserve a dependable source of local news, and too many important local stories either arrive late or never get covered at all. The Current exists to change that. You can read how the Current works, including how we use AI tools and handle conflicts of interest, on our Ethics & disclosures page.
