About the Cortez Current

Cortez Current is a local news site for Cortez, Dolores, Mancos and the rest of Montezuma County, Colorado.

We cover four beats:

Council & Government — what City Council and the county decide, and why it matters.
Community & Events — where to go, what to do, and the people making a difference.
Public Safety & Weather — roads, weather and emergency news.
Real Estate & Development — permits, zoning and how Cortez is growing.

Our goal is simple: plain-language reporting, with links to the documents and sources behind every story so you can check our work.

Who publishes the Current

Cortez Current is published by Charles P. Borchini Jr. of Cortez, the sole owner of Cortez Current LLC. It is a one-person operation. AI tools help draft and summarize source material. The publisher prepares some articles himself and proofreads them before they are published, reads the others after they are published, and corrects errors promptly. Our Ethics & disclosures page explains how that works, who owns the site, how it is funded, and the publisher’s other businesses. You can also read more about the publisher.
