Bluejays volleyball wins twice at the league tournament, ends 12-11

Mancos swept Dove Creek and Nucla on Saturday to finish the regular season with an even record. The second of those results was not posted when the Current last reported the day.

Mancos played twice in the week of October 26, both on Saturday in San Juan Basin League tournament play, and won both without losing a set. That brings the Bluejays’ season to 12 wins and 11 losses over 23 varsity matches.

Volleyball

The Bluejays beat Dove Creek 3-0 in a match listed for 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, and Nucla 3-0 at 2 p.m. the same day. Both were tournament matches rather than league games, so the Mancos league record stands where it was, at five wins and three losses.

The Dove Creek result is the one piece of news here. When the Current reported Saturday’s play on Saturday evening, the morning match against Dove Creek had no score posted on MaxPreps; the win appeared afterwards. That earlier story has been corrected.

Both opponents had been beaten before. Mancos has now won three times against Dove Creek and twice against Nucla, and it has won four of its last five matches: the two Saturday sweeps, a 3-1 win over Ridgway on October 24 and a 3-0 win over Nucla on October 22, either side of a 3-0 loss at Telluride on October 20.

No venue is given above, for the reason set out in Saturday’s report: the record the Current works from names the site only as the league tournament, not as a school, and separately marks both matches as home ones. Two readings that disagree are not a venue, so the Current prints neither.

Football

Mancos played no game in the week of October 26. Its football season finished earlier, at six wins and two losses, with a league record of two wins and one loss.

What comes next

Nothing further is listed for any Mancos team. The next fixed point in the volleyball year is Monday, when the regional seeding meeting is held; the rest of the association’s postseason calendar, through the state championships in mid-November, is set out in Saturday’s report.

Every figure above was counted match by match from the feed behind the Current’s scoreboards page, which draws on the Bluejays’ pages on MaxPreps.
