Bluejays volleyball sweeps Nucla in league tournament play

Mancos beat Nucla 3-0 in San Juan Basin League tournament play on Saturday afternoon, a match listed for 2 p.m. The win is the Bluejays’ second over Nucla in nine days, after a 3-0 result on October 22, and it brings their season record to 11 wins and 11 losses over 22 varsity matches.

The tournament match is not counted as a league game, so the Bluejays’ league record stands where it was, at five wins and three losses. The feed the Current reads records the venue only as “SJBL Tourney” rather than as a school, which is how a neutral tournament site is listed, while separately flagging the match as a home one — so where it was played is not something the Current can state from the record it has.

A second tournament match, against Dove Creek at 10 a.m. on Saturday, is listed with no result posted as of Saturday evening.

Mancos has now won three of its last four, the Nucla sweeps either side of a 3-1 win over Ridgway on October 24 and a 3-0 loss at Telluride on October 20. Its 11 wins came against Norwood, Dove Creek twice, Montezuma-Cortez, Ouray, Sangre de Cristo, Monte Vista, Ridgway and Nucla twice.

The Colorado High School Activities Association’s volleyball calendar puts the regional seeding meeting on Monday, November 2, regionals completed by Saturday, November 7, state brackets released Monday, November 9, and the state championships on November 12 to 14.
