How we project winners
A check mark (✓) is a Cortez Current projection, not an official result. We project a race only when the side that is behind would need more than 65% of every vote still to be counted to catch up. To estimate the votes still to come, we assume turnout will match the 2024 presidential election: 80% of registered voters statewide and 70% in Montezuma County. A midterm election draws fewer voters than that, so the estimate errs high. Ballot questions are measured against their own pass mark: 55% for amendments 81 through 86 and a majority for the rest. We don't project races decided by a whole district, except for candidates who have no opponent. Our editors can also project a race from the count and the ballots likely still out: we projected the District 1 county commissioner race for Rodney Cox at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, when Rebecca Busic would have needed about two-thirds of the roughly 3,000 to 4,000 ballots likely left to count to catch up. Counties certify the official results later in November.

Polls closed at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The results above are unofficial counts from the Colorado Secretary of State’s election night reporting site, and this page refreshes them about once a minute as counties report.
They cover every race and question on Montezuma County ballots: the District 1 county commissioner race, Cortez Question 2A, county questions 1A and 1B, Mancos Question 2B, the county offices, the statewide offices, the 3rd Congressional District, state House districts 58 and 59, judges and the 14 statewide ballot measures. In statewide and district races, the main numbers are statewide or district-wide, and Montezuma County’s own count is listed under each race.
By 2 p.m. Tuesday, 10,607 Montezuma County ballots had been returned, 53 percent of the county’s active voters, according to the Secretary of State.
Counties are likely to report ballots they processed before Election Day first, so early numbers can move as Election Day ballots are counted. Voters whose ballots have a signature problem have until Nov. 12 to fix it, and the results are not final until counties certify them.
