County says all voting locations are unchanged, including Mancos

Montezuma County posted the notice twice on Monday morning, the day before Election Day and hours after an evacuation order covered blocks of Mancos. It asks voters to disregard earlier information about a possible change, without saying what that was.

Montezuma County told voters on Monday morning that none of its in-person voting locations or ballot drop boxes have moved for Tuesday’s election, and singled out Mancos.

Three figures for Election Day in Montezuma County. Polling centers are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on November 3. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. that day. Mancos has two locations, a drop box at Town Hall and a polling center at the public library. Graphic: Cortez Current. Source: Montezuma County 2026 General Election Information page

The county posted the notice on its Facebook page at 9:45 a.m. and again, in shorter form, at 10:06 a.m. The longer version reads: “UPDATE FOR MONTEZUMA COUNTY VOTERS. All in-person voting locations and ballot drop boxes remain unchanged, including locations in Mancos. Please disregard earlier information about a possible change. Your vote matters! Get out and vote!”

The county did not say what the earlier information was, who put it out or where it appeared, and the Current could not find a post on the county’s own page saying a change was possible. Both of the county’s election pages list the two Mancos locations as they have been listed all along: the 24-hour drop box at Mancos Town Hall and the Voter Service and Polling Center at the Mancos Public Library, open on Election Day only.

The notice came about 11 hours after the county posted an evacuation order for several blocks of Mancos beside the rising Mancos River, at 11:06 p.m. on Sunday. The county has not connected the two, and nothing it has published says the flooding had any bearing on voting arrangements. Nothing it has published says the evacuation order has been lifted either.

Every polling center in the county is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and completed ballots have to be in the Clerk and Recorder’s hands by 7 p.m. The addresses of all four polling centers and all six drop boxes, and the full list of what is on the ballot, are in the Current’s voter guide, which has been updated with this notice. The Elections Office is at 970-565-3728.
