Panther softball sweeps Gunnison doubleheader; soccer wins at Bayfield

Montezuma-Cortez softball won both ends of a home doubleheader on Saturday and boys soccer stayed unbeaten in league play, while volleyball lost all three of its matches.

Montezuma-Cortez teams have played six games since the start of last week, and the best of them came on Saturday at home, where varsity softball beat Gunnison twice.

Softball

The varsity swept a home league doubleheader from Gunnison on Saturday, winning 13-3 in the first game and 21-3 in the second. Montezuma-Cortez is 12-6 on the season and 5-1 in league play. Softball is the school’s strongest team this autumn by record.

The team is back at home on Monday, October 5 for another varsity doubleheader, against Rifle at 1 p.m.

Boys soccer

The varsity won 4-2 at Bayfield on Thursday in a league game, its third league win without a loss and its fifth straight win overall. Montezuma-Cortez is 9-2 on the season and 3-0 in the league.

A home league match against Pagosa Springs was scheduled for Saturday afternoon; MaxPreps has posted no result for it yet. The next home league date after that is Alamosa on Saturday, October 10 at 3 p.m.

Volleyball

The varsity lost all three sets at Dolores on Monday and was swept again 3-0 at home by Bayfield on Tuesday in a league match. The Panthers are 3-13-1 on the season and 0-6 in the league. JV volleyball also lost at Dolores, 2-0.

Volleyball is away at Monticello on Tuesday, October 6, and back at home against Centauri on Saturday, October 10.
