Panther scoreboard: week of September 21

Varsity football won at Gunnison for its first league win of the season. Boys soccer stayed unbeaten in league play, and volleyball was swept in all three of its matches.

Montezuma-Cortez teams played nine games with recorded results between September 21 and 26. Varsity football won for the first time since its season opener, and the varsity boys soccer side is now 8-2.

Football

Varsity won 25-21 at Gunnison on Friday night in a league game — the Panthers’ first win since a 44-0 opener against Ignacio on August 21, and their first in league play. That puts them at 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the league, sixth in the 2A Western Slope.

The JV played at Mancos on Monday. MaxPreps lists no score for that game.

Boys soccer

The varsity won 2-1 at Pagosa Springs on Thursday in a league game, a seventh straight win since a loss on September 4. The Panthers are 8-2 on the season and 2-0 in league play, first in the 3A Intermountain. The JV played Pagosa to a 0-0 draw.

Volleyball

A hard week. The varsity lost 2-3 at home to Pagosa Springs on Tuesday in the closest match of the three, then was swept 0-3 at Alamosa on Friday and 0-3 at Centauri on Saturday. All three were league matches, leaving the Panthers 3-11-1 overall and 0-5 in the league. The JV lost 0-2 in each of the same three fixtures.

Softball

The JV was scheduled against Rifle on Friday. MaxPreps lists no result.


Tuesday is a double home date: softball hosts Durango at 3 p.m. and volleyball hosts Bayfield at 4:30 p.m. Homecoming football against Aspen is Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
