About 200 rally at Veterans Park to urge early voting
KSJD reported close to 200 people at Saturday's No Kings rally in Cortez, one of more than 70 in Colorado. In-person voting opened at the county annex on Monday.
Close to 200 people gathered at Veterans Park in Cortez on Saturday for a No Kings rally that organizers aimed at getting people to vote early, KSJD reported.
The Cortez gathering was one of more than 70 held in Colorado and part of a national day of action, KSJD said. Drivers on Main Street sounded their horns as they passed.
The timing sits against the county’s election calendar. Ballots were mailed to every active registered voter beginning October 5, and the Voter Service and Polling Center at the Montezuma County Annex 1, 107 N. Chestnut St., opened on Monday, October 19. It is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 29, on Saturday, October 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and on Election Day, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Completed ballots have to be in the Clerk and Recorder’s hands by 7 p.m. on November 3; postmarks do not count.
The deputy clerk told county commissioners on Tuesday that more than 1,000 ballots had come in on the first day.
What is on the ballot, where the drop boxes are and where else you can vote in person are set out in the Current’s voter guide.
