Alamosa sweeps senior-night volleyball as three Panther teams lose

Montezuma-Cortez went without a win on Saturday, losing its volleyball, boys soccer and softball fixtures.

Saturday brought three Montezuma-Cortez teams into action and none of them came away with a result, the senior-night volleyball match ending in a straight-sets defeat to Alamosa.

Montezuma-Cortez results for Saturday, October 17: varsity volleyball lost 0-3 to Alamosa at home in a league match; varsity boys soccer lost 0-3 at Grand Junction Central; varsity softball lost 9-18 to La Junta in a tournament game. Graphic: Cortez Current. Source: MaxPreps

The varsity volleyball side lost 0-3 at home in a league match. The high school’s calendar had the C, junior varsity and varsity matches down as a single block running from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and marked the day as senior night; no C or junior varsity score from it has been posted. The varsity record moves to 5-16-1 for the season and 0-8 in league play.

Boys soccer went to Grand Junction Central and lost 0-3 at Longs Memorial Park. Nothing in that result touches the standings — it was not a league match — so the unbeaten 5-0 league mark the Panthers built up through a win over Alamosa a week ago still stands, alongside an 11-3 record against all comers. Bayfield visits Cortez next, on Tuesday, October 20 at 4 p.m., in a league game listed on the MaxPreps feed but absent from the school’s own published calendar.

Varsity softball lost 9-18 to La Junta. MaxPreps marks that one as a tournament fixture and gives no venue for it, and it too is missing from the school calendar. The Panthers finish the day 14-9.
