Cortez police mark Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The department lists the local and statewide places people can turn to for help.
The following is a post from the Cortez Police Department, published to its Crimewatch page on September 29, 2026 and last updated October 2, 2026.
Love isn’t supposed to hurt. Yet, every year, millions of people suffer in silence, trapped in abusive relationships. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a crucial reminder that no one deserves to be hurt, threatened, or controlled by someone they love. If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, remember that help is available.
In the event of an emergency, call or text 911.
For assistance and support, reach out to local agencies such as Renew, Mancos United, ViolenceFreeColorado.org, your doctor, mental health provider, Axis Health Crisis Line, or The Pinon Project. You don’t have to face this alone. There are people who care and want to help. Remember, love should uplift and support you, not hurt or control you. Take the first step towards a safer, healthier life today.
