Dolores trustees to act on town attorney's resignation
Monday's agenda lists a resolution accepting Ethan J. Sumrall's resignation, a legal services agreement with another firm, a first reading of the 2024 international building codes and a review of the county housing needs assessment.
The Dolores Board of Trustees meets Monday, October 12, with a resolution accepting the resignation of the town attorney at the top of its action items.
Resolution 723 is listed on the agenda as “Accepting the Resignation of Town Attorney Ethan J. Sumrall.” The agenda gives no reason for the resignation and no effective date, and the board has not voted on it. The town separately has a Town Attorney Position Available notice posted on its website.
Immediately after it, the board will consider Resolution 725, approving a legal services agreement with the firm Holligan Westendorff, PLLC.
The rest of the action items
Resolution 724 would approve a non-exclusive easement agreement with Clearnetworx, LLC.
Ordinance 594, adopting the 2024 International Codes, is listed for a first reading. Under the town’s usual practice a first reading is followed at a later meeting by a public hearing and a second, final reading; the agenda does not give that date.
Presentations and budget
Under administrative business the agenda lists a Search and Rescue presentation, and a presentation and board review of the 2026 Region 9 and Montezuma County housing needs assessments, carried out under the state housing law SB24-174. The agenda says the board will discuss and give direction on comments to be submitted to the Region 9 Economic Development District. A preliminary budget item is also listed.
The consent agenda holds the minutes of the September 28 workshop and meeting and the town’s September 2026 proceedings. Staff and committee reports are scheduled from the sheriff’s office, Town Manager Leigh Reeves, Town Attorney Ethan Sumrall, Treasurer Kelley Unrein, the maintenance and public works department, County Commissioner Jim Candelaria, the Community Center Advisory Board and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
The board’s standing list of future agenda topics carries road safety, revenue generation and a Dolores Community Center site visit. The agenda ends with an executive session; no topic for it is stated on the agenda.
If you want to go
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Dolores Town Hall, 601 Central Ave. Public comment is taken at five minutes per speaker, and the agenda asks speakers to give a name and address. The town’s website has a link for attending virtually, under Government and then Town Board Meetings.
