Dolores trustees take first vote on wildfire code Monday
The board takes up the state wildfire building code on first reading, with the public hearing and final vote now set for October 12. Trustees will also act on a resignation and a telecom lease.
The Dolores Board of Trustees meets Monday evening to take a first vote on the building standards the town has been weighing since early September, along with a telecommunications lease, a resignation from the board and an appointment to a town committee.

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall, 601 Central Ave., with a workshop on holiday planning and the trustee vacancy before the regular meeting. The packet says residents who want to attend online can find the link on the town’s website under Government, then Town Board Meetings. Public comment is limited to five minutes a speaker, and speakers are asked to give a name and address.
Wildfire code: first reading, not the final word
The main item is Ordinance No. 593, which would adopt the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code in Dolores. The agenda lists it as a first reading, and the action the board is asked to consider is to approve it on first reading and set the public hearing and second and final reading for October 12.
That is a step further out than the timetable reported earlier this month. When trustees heard a presentation on the code at their September 14 meeting, KSJD reported the board was scheduled to vote on adopting it on September 28. The posted agenda now puts the binding vote, and the public hearing that goes with it, two weeks later. Our earlier story has what the board was told about the code itself.
A seat opens on the board
Resolution No. 721 would acknowledge the resignation of Trustee Linnea Peterson, effective October 1, declare a vacancy on the board, and state the board’s intent to fill that vacancy by appointment. The trustee vacancy is also one of the two workshop topics before the regular meeting. The agenda does not say when an appointment would be made or how residents could apply.
Other business
Resolution No. 720 would approve a Comnet/Everest lease agreement. The packet does not state a dollar figure on the agenda page.
Resolution No. 722 would appoint Leif Johnson to the town’s Park and Playground Advisory Committee.
The consent agenda — a single vote unless a trustee pulls an item — carries the September 14 minutes and approval of a minor subdivision replat, the Ryan Subdivision on Central Avenue.
No public hearings are scheduled. The agenda lists an executive session before adjournment without stating a topic on the agenda page. Reports are due from the town manager, the town attorney, County Commissioner Jim Candelaria and the Community Center Advisory Board.
Items listed for future meetings are a building code, road safety, revenue generation and a Dolores Community Center site visit.
