Homecoming parade closes Main Street Wednesday evening

Highway 160 through downtown Cortez will be shut from North Park Street to Maple Street for the Montezuma-Cortez High School parade, with lineup at 5 p.m.

The following is a news release from the Cortez Police Department, posted September 28, 2026.

Main Street (Highway 160) will be closed this Wednesday from North Park Street to Maple Street for the MCHS Homecoming parade with lineup at 5pm and the parade beginning at 5:30pm. During the event, flashing lights and sirens may be present. Officers from the Cortez Police Department will be stationed at intersections along the route to support traffic control and ensure public safety.

We invite the community to come out and enjoy the parade and show support for MCHS. Thank you for your cooperation and help in keeping the event safe for everyone.

The department’s flyer gives the parade date as Wednesday, September 30, 2026, with lineup at 5 p.m. on North Park Street and the parade starting at 5:30 p.m. on Main Street. It adds that candy is welcome but may not be thrown, and asks entrants to prepare to have walkers.
