Charles "Chuck" Haley

Charles “Chuck” Haley of Cortez died August 20, 2026, at Vista Mesa Assisted Living at the age of 94. He was born March 16, 1932, in Texhoma, Oklahoma, the son of Beverly Franklin and Althea Ethel (Kidder) Haley.

He moved to the Cortez area with his family in 1940 and graduated from high school in Cortez in 1950. He enlisted in the Army in the spring of 1951 and served three years during the Korean War, stationed at Camp Wood in Japan. After his discharge in 1954 he returned to Cortez and began a career in banking. He and his wife, Marilyn, married in 1955 and sang together with the Cortez Choralaires for more than 50 years.

A military graveside service will be held Friday, October 30 at 1 p.m. at Cortez Cemetery, 27440 Highway 160, with a reception following at 2 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 2100 N. Dolores Road.
